A fresh political storm has erupted in the United States after Vice President JD Vance made controversial comments linking mass immigration to the “theft of the American Dream.” His remarks have drawn fierce criticism, especially after critics pointed to his own family’s Indian roots.

Vance’s Immigration Stand Sparks Outrage

Speaking on a New York Post podcast, Vance claimed that large-scale immigration harms American workers and weakens job opportunities. When confronted with studies contradicting his statements, he brushed them aside, alleging they were funded by “people getting rich off the old system.”

The VP further added that it was “totally reasonable and acceptable” for Americans to prefer neighbours who share their race, language, or skin colour — a comment that has ignited a nationwide debate.

Critics Drag in His Indian-Origin Wife

Vance’s stance has triggered widespread backlash, especially as his wife Usha Vance is of Indian heritage. Her parents migrated from India, and Usha, an American lawyer, has been the second lady of the US since 2025.

Critics slammed Vance for hypocrisy. Author Wajahat Ali remarked, “That means you have to send Usha, her Indian family, and your biracial kids back to India,” taking a direct dig at Vance’s comments.

Controversy Over His Religious Remarks

This is not the first time Vance has faced criticism. Recently, he stirred controversy by expressing hope that his Hindu-raised, Indian-origin wife would one day convert to Christianity. After online outrage, he issued a clarification stating she is not a Christian and has “no plans to convert,” though she accompanies him and their children to church.

Political Debate Continues

Vance also accused the former Biden administration of intentionally crafting an immigration system that, according to him, “promoted division.” He reiterated that his administration is working to remove as many undocumented migrants as possible.

The Vice President’s remarks have further intensified the already-heated political discourse around immigration, identity, and race in the United States.
